I can admit it. I don’t ever shut the fuck up. If you give me the opportunity, I will undoubtedly bend your ear to the point that you will gnaw off your own arm to a bloody fucking stump to escape. I can be annoying in that way. In fact, I’m doing that right now by continuing to bloviate about my predilection for extraneous and generally unnecessary detail in most conversations. What I have yet to do is tell you about this fucking bang-ger™️ of an album from a band that needs less time to make their point then I ever will.
Hailing from Charm City, Sinister Feeling has created a take no prisoners piece of art with their self-titled LP, Sinister Feeling. And they have accomplished this feat in 12 minutes and 54 seconds. A tutorial in powerviolence and getting to the motherfucking point (a knack I am severely in need of, obviously).
I wish I could pinpoint one or two songs specifically on this album to highlight but honestly, they are all fucking fantastic. (OK let’s highlight a few) The feedback and snare tap of vicious album opener “Poison Mind”? Yeah, we’re in for a fucking ride so strap in buckaroo. Chaos incarnate leading into a jaw crushing breakdown in “Sold Out”? Circle “yes” on this waiver. Oh, was 1 minute too long for you? Crank up “Fade to Nothing” and be pummeled into submission in 19 seconds flat. “H.T.B.” begins with Michael Corleone disowning his brother, Fredo, and that anger is felt through the rest of the track. And the rest of the album, natch.
By the time you reach album closer “Encased in Cement”, you welcome the drudging bass line only to realize, as you’re met with an angered scream, that giving Sinister Feeling 2 minutes and 21 seconds probably means your life is soon at an end. I envision massive amounts of stage diving and crowd killing and no one can be held accountable for their actions.
One of my favorite parts of Sinister Feeling is that it is fucking loud and in your fucking grill like a dentist without a license. There is no let up and rarely a moment to catch your breath. This is a HIIT workout in audio form. Get your fucking cardio in. Baltimore is a city that takes no shit and Sinister Feeling is a band that exemplifies that sentiment. Fuck around and find out.
